Frequently Asked Questions

What is Assisted Living?

A long-term care option that offers housing, supportive service and care as needed to keep seniors as independent as possible while enjoying a strong quality of life.

Why choose Assisted Living?

There are so many reasons to consider assisted living.  Mainly, this living arrangement promotes independence and dignity for every resident while encouraging family and friends to remain involved and live with peace of mind that their loved ones are safe and comfortable.

Is Assisted Living the right solution for every family?

Answer these simple questions to find out.

  • Forgetting to take medications or over-medicating
  • Getting out for errands, appointments and shopping is increasingly more difficult
  • Making new friends is all but impossible
  • Managing alone is less desirable than it used to be, but a nursing home is not an option either
  • Getting up and dressed and having energy to do much more is harder and harder
  • Preparing healthy meals and snacks is a burdensome chore
  • Maintaining independence is important, but some help from time to time would be appreciated
  • Occasional memory impairments make the thought of partial supervision inviting
  • Being a part of a social and safe community would make life more meaningful

What do I look for in Assisted Living?

Overall feeling
  • How does the exterior of the community look; is it inviting, landscaped nicely?
  • Does the community “feel” comfortable and home-like?
  • How are you welcomed upon entering the community?
  • Are the staff and residents interacting well?  Does the staff acknowledge residents by name and appear friendly?
  • Do the residents appear to be happy?  Are they speaking with one another?
  • Are residents engaged in activities or just sitting around?
Features
  • Does the floor plan meet your needs?  Is it easy to get around?
  • Are the halls wide and lit well and are there handrails?
  • Are the carpets low pile and non-skid to accommodate walkers and wheelchairs?
  • Is the community clean and without odors?
  • Do residents control their own heating and air conditioning in their suites?
  • Does the community have an emergency escape plan?  Are there clearly marked exits?
Care
  • Is there a carefully thought out individualized care plan for each resident?
  • Is there a monthly assessment/wellness plan for each resident?
  • Is there a regular ongoing opportunity to meet with staff to review/assess care needs?

How much will it cost?

Monthly rents are based on both the care and services required as well as the size of the suite.  At Hearthstone, we believe our rates are very competitive and that we offer good value.  To best understand all costs, please meet with a Hearthstone representative.

Does everyone have a roommate?

No, many residents choose to have their own suite while others like the idea of “companion living”.  The choice is yours.  There are benefits to having a roommate including having someone to bond with as the transition to a new community is happening.

What sets Hearthstone communities apart from others?

Our customized care plans that allow for aging in one place, our one-story buildings that support increased mobility, our varied social events that allow for choices in everyday activities and dining, and, most importantly, our well-trained staff of caring professionals is what sets Hearthstone apart in the choices that you have for an assisted living community.

Can my loved one have a trial stay at Hearthstone?

Yes, most of our communities have a respite program available.  This program allows caregivers some time with their families/friends and offers a prospective resident time at a community to help them feel comfortable as they make a decision.
