Could Your Loved One Benefit From Assisted Living?
Many seniors benefit greatly from the caring support and assistance they receive from assisted living. To help identify who benefits most, we have listed below some key signs that should be considered while making a decision to move into assisted living.
We believe that seniors with any of the following conditions should seriously consider a move to a Hearthstone community:
A Marked Deterioration of Health – Seniors with specific health diagnoses such as chronic Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs), Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Hypertension (HTN), Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) benefit greatly from assisted living where their health is closely monitored and staff is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help with emergencies or just basic assistance.
Poor Medication Management – Seniors who may be forgetful of taking medications or who are purposefully not following doctor’s orders to take certain medicines are prime candidates to participate in our Medication Management program where our trained staff monitor the dosage, timing and refill orders of our residents to take the pressure off of both the senior as well as family members.
Memory Problems – Seniors with mild or severe dementia or who are having problems with forgetfulness, wandering or getting lost, confusion or repeating questions will greatly benefit from having 24-hour supervision. Our assisted living communities are comfortably secure and utilize WanderGuard systems to help ensure residents are safe and monitored.
Limited Socialization – Seniors who are isolated in their homes, disinterested in hobbies or projects or who are reticent to participate in regular activities will greatly benefit from assisted living programs where we encourage socializing and active participation. Each of our assisted living communities feature a full month of scheduled events, where residents are encouraged to get out of their apartments. All residents enjoy three daily meals plus snacks, exercise, regular group projects, games and special events.
Lack of Family Participation – Seniors who are often left alone due to family work schedules; commitments or vacations will no longer be left to take care of themselves. Our unique assisted living program not only offers full time residency, but also respite stays or day programs to suit the needs of both the senior and their family.
Poor Nutrition and Hydration – Seniors who find they cook very little or not at all, who may often forget to eat or who are unable to sleep will have a strong support system in place to remind and monitor their nutrition. With three gourmet meals a day served restaurant style in our community dining rooms, seniors will have a well balanced diet to promote strong mental and physical well being.
Difficulty Managing Home – A house is a huge undertaking with daily cleaning, yard work, cooking, and money management. Seniors who are no longer able to keep up with the daily chores of their home may find themselves living in less than sanitary conditions.
Loss of Close Companionship – Seniors who have recently lost a spouse, family member, pet or friend are in desperate need feeling the sense of community our assisted living facilities encourage. New friends at Hearthstone help to give our residents the sense of belonging and companionship they may find hard to establish on their own. Family and other long term friends are also encouraged to visit and participate in the activities with their loved ones at Hearthstone.
Security Risks – Seniors living in unsafe neighborhoods or who fear vulnerability from being alone or taken advantage of will rest easy in their assisted living home knowing our trained staff is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
High Fall Risk or Frequent ER Visits – Seniors who are frequently slipping and falling will greatly benefit from our unique Fall Prevention Program and our one-story buildings.
